Aerials atop Cerro Blanco

This is a marked route within the area of Los Llanos, but is quite difficult in places and has some very rocky paths that are quite steep at times, but there are no dangerous bits. However the views are very rewarding, given a clear day.
The route starts from the parking area for the old Eldorado Studios now used as a Paintball venue and the first section follows the route towards the Mirador. A short distance along this track is a path off to the right that goes through the trees and although starts with quite a gentle incline it does get much steeper. Eventually the path emerges from the trees and follows up a zigzag route in the open with views to the coast. At this point you are somewhat higher than the Fire Lookout which is clearly visible. We then meet the main service track for the Aerials and follow this to the summit where the views are into the far distance on an almost 360 deg vista.
The route down follows the service track, which was in quite good condition, and back to the entrance to the old Studios.

Castillo & Cerro Poleo, Monda

The walk starts from the car park in Monda and sets off through the narrow streets of this picturesque Pueblo Blanco and then takes the track at the base of the mound on which Monda Castle stands. It´s then out into the campo and taking the tracks onto Cerro Poleo followed by Cerro Gordo, and it does appear that there could be some long inclines, then it’s downhill back to the village.

Teba Watchtower

This week we venture a little further afield to the lovely town of Teba and a route that John has devised for us. We set off on the outside of the town and head out into the rolling arable countryside and head for the ancient watchtower. This seems a convenient place for a break and to admire the surrounding views.

Dove Ravine & Camino Forestal

This area has been walked a lot by the Madragista group but hopefully it will be a new one for a lot of you, and it is a twist on the summer routes.
We start from the top end of Alhaurin el Grande and head through the Barrio de San Anton until we reach the ravine which we walk up. This part of the route is strewn with lots of loose rocks and stones but also has some fascinating features on its flanks.
We then leave the ravine and join the Camino Forestal for our route back to the start.

Huerto de Coin

This week’s walk takes us to Huerta de Coin and into scenery that is unusual for this area, whilst the views have mountains in the distance the nearer views are a patchwork of arable land, growing crops and grazing animals. At this time of the year there should be plenty of wild flowers in bloom and blossom on the trees.

Cartama Pueblo

We start off from the edge of the pueblo and head out into the campo, past the Paintball fields and through the Orange plantations. The return route is mainly on pavements as we pass through the pueblo and back to the start for refreshment in the local bar.
